Compilers: did anyone try SharpDevelop?

Hi people,

My little presentation: I'm vespadj, 27 Italy, a green developer, I know asp, html, lua, js, vb-for-application.
I wrote a good script for vstlua (discontinued) called "midiLooper_multichannel" a complete midi tool for live performance.

I'm trying to understand if I can develop directly a roboust vst to instead of my lua script.

my question:

1. Did any one already try SharpDevelop?
It's a free .net compiler for .NET and C#, lighter and easy.

during compile retorn an error in coping of file: copy

I think the problem is in the string of PostBuildEvent (Jacobi.Vst.Samples.MidiNoteMapper.csproj)

I just install VS2010 Express but I have some problem during conversion of prj.

2. What compilers (and version) do you usually use?

thanks, vespadj

first day with SharpDevelop.

I try to open Jacobi.Vst.Samples.MidiNoteMapper.csproj.

copying jacobi.core and framework to GAC, set reference, change PostBuildEvent string with:

copy "$(TargetPath)" "$(SolutionDir)bin\Debug\$(TargetName).net.vstdll"
copy "$(SolutionDir)bin\Debug\Jacobi.Vst.Interop.dll" "$(SolutionDir)bin\Debug\$(TargetName)$(TargetExt)"

Now  rebuild works without error or warning,

but I can load the generated Jacobi.Vst.Samples.MidiNoteMapper.dll only on Jacobi.Vst.Samples.Host.exe and not on vsthost.

any suggest?

thank, vespadj

Do you receive an error? What is the error?

What host do you use to load the plugin?

None error or warning,

Jacobi.Vst.Samples.Host.exe load it ok, other host can not load vst (vsthost, mu.lab, energtXT demo).

What is the sample you suggest start to compile to test settings ?

thanks, vespadj

OK! Now I can correctly compile with the IDE SharpDevelop  3.2.1 (freeware).

  1. copy to GAC files: Jacobi.Vst.Core.dll , Jacobi.Vst.Framework.dll
  2. open Sample on ShapDevelop, delete reference Jacobi.Vst.Core.dll , Jacobi.Vst.Framework.dll and re-add them as GAC reference
  3. copy Jacobi.Vst.Interop.* files to <sample dir>\bin\debug\
  4. open Property prj and edit PostBuildEvent with vadid path of your system:
    • copy "$(TargetPath)" "$(SolutionDir)bin\Debug\$(TargetName).net.vstdll"
    • copy "$(SolutionDir)bin\Debug\Jacobi.Vst.Interop.dll" "$(SolutionDir)bin\Debug\$(TargetName)$(TargetExt)"
  5. Re-Build solution
  6. See error: if there are cycling references, delete it from References and re-build
  7. Test vst on vsthost

Tested on Vista sp2 32bit all framework installed (2 to 4), VC++ redistribuitable 2005, 2008
