Is there a way to step debug through the code in VS2013 while a host is launching my VST DLL? If so how?

Open your managed plugin project in VS2013 and make sure you have a Debug build (we need those symbols).

rename the output .dll of your project to [my-plugin].net.vstdll
rename the Jacobi.Vst.Interop.dll to [my-plugin].dll

I chose to automate this in a post-build event in the project. But you can do it manually also (gets boring quickly ;-).

Make sure the Jacobi.Vst.Core.dll and the Jacobi.Vst.Framework.dll are also available in the folder with the other assemblies.

Now start your DAW and point to the folder that contains your newly build assemblies and load the plugin.

In VS2013 goto the Debug menu and select the 'Attach to Process...' option. Select your DAW process from the list and click Attach.
You should now be able to set break points and step through the code.

Hope it helps.
